We would like to thank all the staff members at Gariep Mediclinic for the service provided to us. My fiancé had a terrible MVA on 12/07/2017 and had severe facial injuries. He was treated by Dr. W Salie and Dr W Hoek.
Excellent treatment in High care, theatre and in the casualty at arrival.

We are so grateful that he had a full recovering with minimal damage and would forever be thankful to all the personnel who assisted during his stay there. Wards are definitely short staffed but still, we have no complaints at all.

      Keep up the Good work.

9/4/2017 – I just tried to call 6 times from the USA to get an update on a family member. Every time I am transferred to the Highcare the person would answer and then put me on hold. I still don’t have an answer.

In June of last year I was admitted to Gariep for neck surgery. Having heard good and bad things I was very apprehensive. However I received the most professional service and care in ICU and in the wards. I was once again admitted to Gariep for back surgery om 11 April 2017 and put I’m high care. Well this did not go very well, firstly the male carer they assigned to me could not understand English very well. I asked for some ice which took him 20 mins to get, then he placed them on the cabinet where I could not reach it, he left me no bell to ring so I lay there trying to attract some attention to no avail. They gave me a pain pump and how to use it. After about 2 hours I was in excruciating pain even after pressing the pain pump. I again tried to get his attention nobody arrived by this time my husband arrived and he asked for some assistance. The male sister/ carer came and checked the pain pump spending what felt like an eternity trying to fix it, eventually my husband asked if they could give me something else for pain, this took another 30 mins. Needless to say the pain pump was not working, so this is how it when until about 6pm. PATHETIC service from the day staff in high care. Night staff came on duty and what a difference, professional and took a are of all my needs and fixed the pain pump they treated me with respect and made me comfortable (5) stars to the night staff. On 12/4/2017 I was moved to Ward C but as they were still waiting for a bed, they put me in ward E35. Well needless to say, this was another professional service from Sr. Jane Robinson she gone me something to eat and even fed me, later the ward got quite busy and I needed to be fed again ask the ward was busy the Matron came to there assistance and fed me so all in all 5 stars to ward E. I was then moved to ward C12. The day staff were friendly and helpful however the night staff were a different story. It was very noisy ( sounded like a party going on) and it too forever for them to answer the bell. At 8 pm I requested that I be washed as the wash I’d received was in high care on the 11th. The person who answered the bell said I must wait as they we’re very busy and had threatre cases to see to first and slammed the door, needless to say I waited until after 10 before the sister came in and I told her I was waiting to be washed, she personally washed me and made me comfortable.
The food was atrousous and I certainly hope the get someone else to do the food service as it is diffinately no as good as my first visit and too much rice with each meal, I returned most of my meals untouched as it did not even look appertising. All in all I’m very disappointed this time round.

Was onlangs daar vir n blindederm operasie, kan glad nie kla oor die diens, was baie tevrede, my kamer het hulle elke dag kom skoon maak, die badkamer twee keer n dag, die personeel was verskriklik vriendelik en het my baie mooi gehelp, ek sal enige iemand verwys na die hospitaal.

      Absolutely disgusting treatment!
My father was admitted and is in isolation ward. He’s room hasn’t been cleaned since 3 days ago. Went to visit him this morning around 8am and he’s curtains weren’t even opened by then. He’s too weak to feed himself yet food gets dropped off and left on the counter.
Nurses and cleaning staff don’t want to enter he’s room because he’s in isolation, the discrimination!
He was left unattended in the hallway for TWO HOURS WITHOUT he’s oxygen mask, if we hadn’t visited him then, who knows how much longer they could’ve kept him waiting.
This treatment is unacceptable! I will not be taking this lying down.

My sister Mrs L Rautenbach “a cancer patient” was admitted to Gariep MediClinic Kbly on the 10/07/2016 between 11.30am and 12pm.
Suffering from throat cancer and not having saliva glands and taste buds due to all the radiation from previous treatments she eventually became so weak that she wasn’t able to stand on her own two feet any longer without collapsing.
On this occasion a Doctor only arrived 3hrs later and then only 5hrs thereafter an IV was administered.
I wasn’t at the clinic at the time but two days later I was told by my brother-in-law that he waited 15 minutes for someone to respond after he had pressed the call button from my sister’s bedside.
I arrived and caused a scene and was asked to consult Mrs Michelle Langeveldt (Unit Manager) in her office with my grievances.
I complained about the appalling service we were receiving and also the lack of interest shown and that a Nutritionist who was supposed to come, but didn’t.
It was only thereafter that a Dr from ER was called and then finally, things were in motion.
Because of my sister’s severe condition she was moved to the High Care Unit where I also had to approach someone at the reception desk and ask that someone should attend to the sounding alarms of the IV monitors.

Sadly Mrs L Rautenbach passed away two days later.

I totally agree that the hospital is under staffed and staff should show more compassion because after all your service does not come cheap.

P.S. A close friend of my sister Mrs Wendy Peine also had a bad experience with her father who was also in the High Care Unit at the same time.

Our son was injured during the recent Wildeklawer Rugby Tournament and we took him to MediClinic Gariep. There was only 1 doctor on duty in ER and we had to wait for more than an hour and a half to be attended to. Bear in mind that Wildeklawer Rugby Tournament hosts over 3500 rugby players … and there was only 1 doctor on duty !! Shocking !!
While we were sitting there, another 5 boys arrived, some with more serious injuries, torn meniscus – one boy was only twelve years old with a broken wrist and he just had to sit and wait. He was from George (with only his teacher there).. crying ! The other patients who arrived before us (one parent with a very sick baby) was clearly upset because they were waiting so long. When the doctor on duty finally attended to us, he cleaned my son’s head wound without wearing surgical gloves – I took pictures on my cellphone of the procedure. He did wear gloves when he stitched up the wound though.
When my son was admitted I had to pay R525 and the lady at reception asked me to complete a refund form in case the medical aid pays the hospital. The medical aid has paid the hospital but I haven’t received the refund from the hospital. Only when I phoned the hospital this morning, did the accounts dept confirmed the overpayment and forwarded the statement to me so that I can claim back the refund from the medical aid. My question – if I didn’t follow it up with the accounts dept would Mediclinic have notified me about the over payment ?????………..

For such an impressive and beautiful looking building and surrounds the service was extremely bad. Not impressed at all.

My niece spent about 3 weeks in the critical care unit last year and we had given up hope on her recovering, but thanks to the dedicated staff of Gariep Mediclinic she pulled through. Today she is very healthy. Thanks Gariep.

I was in hospital for a week in November and would just like to thank all the staff and personnel for the excellent service that i received in this hospital. A big thanks to all the nurses who was so friendly each time. The catering people thanks for the nice food every day. The cleaning team, thanks alot. I was really impressed with the good service and the friendliness of all the nurses and people in this hospital. Keep up the good work.

    12. EVE MediClinic Gariep

The hospital is understaffed if they correct this aspect things can improve. due to this fact patients are forgotten in a ward totally. bigger hospital, better features but poor service.

    13. Matthias Taute MediClinic Gariep

    14. Meryle M MediClinic Gariep

My husband recently spent six days at MediClinic Gariep when he took ill during our holiday in South Africa. We are from the US and we were very very happy with the care he received at this MediClinic. Everyone who took care of him from the doctors to the nurses, the physical therapists and even the food service people were compassionate and provided excellent care. From my perspective the care he received is as good as any care he could have gotten in a major US hospital.

We heartily recommend the MediClinic Gariep from our experience.
