    Artist Statement:

Over this period of time I have continued to follow long term interests and themes, which have gained a new actuality, both here in South Africa and in Berlin, where I live. Land as an entity, a source of inspiration and life, and the source of much conflict, since we began to believe that it could be owned. The depiction of land in the form of maps, each of which is a reflection of the culture and beliefs of those who made them, or for whom they were made, is another element. Migration as a constant in human development and the maintenance of life is part of my own experience, as a matter of choice, and now again in the meeting with those who are being forced to flee in order to survive. These themes of course throw up archaic fears and core xenophobia, which voice themselves in various forms of non-acceptance and racism. The other theme is that of ageing, strongly influenced by my mother’s ageing process, as well as my own growing awareness of the changes that time creates.
