  • The Story of Mein Heim Guest Farm

The story of Mein Heim Guest Farm is rooted in a love for hospitality, open spaces and the peaceful beauty of the Northern Cape.

For Hennie and Christine Spangenberg, hospitality started long before Mein Heim. Their journey began in 1997, when they opened Carrington Lodge in Kimberley. What started as a small guest house with only three rooms grew over the years into a well-known 16-room guest house.

Through Carrington Lodge, Hennie and Christine discovered how much they enjoyed welcoming people, creating comfort and making guests feel at home. Hospitality became more than just a business — it became part of their way of life.

At the end of 2012, they purchased Mein Heim Estate, fulfilling a dream of owning a small part of the Northern Cape. The farm, previously known as Harkamel Guest Farm, was bought as a going concern from the previous owners. In December 2012, Hennie and Christine moved to the farm and continued the guest farm journey, slowly making Mein Heim their own.

After Covid, the guest house industry changed, and Carrington Lodge never fully recovered to what it had once been. With the older buildings requiring more maintenance and the demands of the farm growing, Hennie and Christine eventually made the difficult decision to sell Carrington Lodge.

But their love for hospitality continued.

Mein Heim became the next chapter in their story — a quieter, more personal chapter where they could continue welcoming guests in a setting that reflected their hearts: peaceful, natural, honest and warm.

Situated only 15km from Kimberley, Mein Heim offers exactly what they had dreamed of: a place close enough to the city, yet far enough to enjoy the quiet, space and calm of farm life.

Guests also have access to a communal swimming pool, a play area for children and a lovely braai area where families and friends can relax, unwind and enjoy the open space.

    The Farm Experience

The farm also carries its own history. Previously a warmblood stud farm, it naturally became a place for horses, riders and peaceful outrides through the veld. Over time, Mein Heim grew into a working farm with sheep, cattle and chickens, while still offering guests a chance to experience the beauty of farm life.

Wildlife also forms part of the farm’s charm. Springbuck, including copper, black and white springbuck, gemsbuck, steenbok, duiker, bat-eared foxes and aardvark all share the land, adding to the feeling that Mein Heim is more than just a place to stay — it is a place to experience.

Today, Mein Heim Guest Farm is not only a guest farm. It is Hennie and Christine’s home, their dream, and their way of sharing a small piece of the Northern Cape with every guest who visits.

Whether you are visiting for business, a family breakaway or a quiet farm escape, Mein Heim offers comfort, privacy, security and warm farm hospitality just 15km from Kimberley.
