    Wildlife Photographic Workshop @ Mokala National Park
     
    Date: 3-5 February 2017 (2 nights)
    Price: R2250 per person
    If you want to bring a friend/family member (that will not attend the workshop) with, it is R600 per person extra.
     
    GENERAL INFO:
    Come join Gerhard on this 2 night, 3 day Wildlife Photographic Workshop. This promises to be an amazing three days (2 nights) of photographic tutorials and practical outings into the field with Gerhard Steenkamp as your photographic guide and tutor.
     
    The safari will be hosted from Haak en Steek camp in Mokala National Park, 80 Km south of Kimberley which is situated in the Northern Cape, South Africa.
     
    NORMAL DAILY ACTIVITY WILL BE:
    Friday 3 February 2017
    Arriving time between 11:00 and 13:00
    14:00 – Get together for a theoretical session.
    15:00 – Going out on a game drive (selfdrive) practicing some of the techniques discussed during the theoretical session.
    18:30 – Back at Haak and steek Camp enjoying the evening round the campfire.
     
    Saturday 4 February 2017
    6:00 – Wake up call, enjoying coffee and rusks.
    6:30 – Going on a game drive (selfdrive assisted by Gerhard via two way radios)
    10:00  Return to Haak en Steek camp.
    10:30 – Brunch.
    11:00 – 14:00 – Tutorials (Gerhard will assist you with photographic tutorials as well as Post Processing techniques in Photoshop)
    14:00 – 15:00 – Resting time.
    15:00 – 18:00 – Afternoon drive (selfdrive) taking photos exploring the park and its wildlife.
    18:30 – Return to Haak en Steek Camp.
    19:00 – Braai en enjoying the evening with friends.
     
    Sunday 5 February 2017
    6:00 – Wake up call, enjoying coffee and rusks.
    6:30 – Going on a game drive (selfdrive assisted by Gerhard via two way radios)
    10:00  Return to Haak en Steek camp.
    10:30 – Brunch.
    11:00 – Recap of the workshop of the past three days.
    11:30 – Departing.
     
    DEPENDING ON YOUR LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE GERHARD WILL ASSIST YOU WITH:
    Photographic tutorials;
    • ISO, Aperture and Shutter combinations.
    • Implementing colour, shapes, lines, patterns, texture and tone into your photos.
    • Use the power points effectively.
    • Composites (Taking more than one overlapping photos and merge them together).
    • Panning (Deliberate Blur) What shutter speed to use to get the effect you want.
    • Setup your camera to the optimum to get the best possible images from it.
     
    Post Processing;
    • Your personalised workflow in Photoshop.
    • How actions can speed up your workflow. (Learn how to write your own actions)
    • The power of layer masks.
    • Luminosity masks (The best kept secret of photoshop).
    • Creating edge and surface masks with luminosity masks and how to use them effectively.
    • Sharpening your images in a correct manner.
    • How to resize, downsize and upsize your images effectively.
     
    WHAT TO BRING ALONG:
    Food;
    • Haak en Steek Camp is a self catering facility with a Gas stove, Freezer and cutlery available. No electricity.
    • Food for the brunch session.
    • Food for the braai on the two nights. Pap and sauce with salads will be provided.
     
    Accommodation;
    • One unit with a double bed and two single beds can be used on a first come first serve basis.
    • Otherwise bring your own tent / caravan (off road)
    • Bring your own bedding.
    • Haak en Steek is a rustic Camp with its own waterhole which make it ideal for such an workshop and also to get a real bush experience.
     
    Equipment;
    • DSLR cameras (One or two bodies)
    • Telephoto lens between 300 and 600mm (Zoom also okay)
    • Medium telephoto lens between 70-200 mm
    • Wide angle lens(s) between 16 and 35 mm
    • Tripod for star/night photography
    • Cable release
    • Bean bag
    • Monopod
    • Laptop with Photoshop installed. (Demo version also okay)
    • Enough memory cards
    • Hard drive with at least 100 gb free space available.
    • Memory Card downloader.
     
    Clothes;
    • Sandals and walking shoes
    • Warm clothes
    • T-shirts
    • Short pants
    • Long pants
    • Sweaters
    • Hat
    • Sunblock
     
    Extra;
    • Money for drinks etc. (Available at Mosu Lodge 10 km from Haak en Steek Camp)
     
    WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE SAFARI:
    • 2 Night stay at Haak en Steek Camp in Mokala National Park
    • Morning coffee and rusks.
    • Services of Gerhard Steenkamp as your photographic guide.
    • Photographic and Post Processing tutorials by Gerhard Steenkamp.
     
    WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SAFARI:
    • Personal phone calls (No Cell/ Internet connection at Haak en Steek Camp)
    • Food if not stated otherwise. Haak en Steek camp is a self catering camp with the basic essentials as cutlery, gas stove, freezer available. In the evening a fire will be provided for the braai.
    • Drinks.
    • Purchases and expenditure of personal nature.
    • Transport to and from Haak en Steek Camp

    A relaxed atmosphere where you will learn more about wildlife photography than you will ever expect.  Come and join me and I will show you how to lift your wildlife photography to another level.
