Armed Forces Day – Main Event

Date: Wednesday, 21 February 2018
 
The SANDF will be hosting the Armed Forces Day on 21 February 2018 in commemoration of the sinking of the SS Mendi that took place on the same date in 1917, whereby a lot of our soldiers lost their lives. The event is also used as a platform for the SANDF to showcase its capabilities.
 
The Armed Forces Day was implemented to achieve several objectives which are as follows:
• To Unite all South Africans behind our military
• To allow the SANDF to interact with communities
• To interact with schools
• To exhibit Military Careers and recruitment drive
• To expand public understanding of the military’s role and its purpose to society
• To showcase the latest military equipment and technologies used to protect the public
• To demonstrate the military combat against threats and as well as to support government during peace time
